Still, all told this is a very welcome update to Diablo III, making it a lot more challenging and making me think a lot more about how to equip skills and items for my character. Monster Power shouldn't be limited to private games and single-player. Then you could use that information to choose which game to join. It seems like Blizzard could have (and should) set up a new multiplayer UI that gives players more choice and more information.įor instance, you should be able to see what characters are playing in each public game, and at what MP level. There is no Monster Power in public games. The real problem with Monster Power levels is co-op mode. Obviously, this time through I should reach a much higher level, gain a lot more gold, and hopefully find some better loot (even though the really good stuff doesn't come until you've played the game through more than once with the same character.) My first play through of the game, with a Wizard, only brought me up to level 30 by the time Diablo was defeated. I turned on Monster Power right when I hit level 12 (when the patch landed) and by the beginning of Act II I've already leveled up to 20. It also allows you to level your character much faster.

In Normal mode, it doesn't really change the difficulty level that much, but the added challenge is nice. I can see how this could get very, very difficult in Inferno mode. More defensive and life-granting abilities, better armor, and some weapons that grant me hit-points each time I hit or kill an enemy, and I'm back in fighting shape (though a decent mob can still prove quite challenging, as can some bosses.) Turns out, I just needed to adjust my play style a bit and shift some loot around. At first I thought it might actually be too hard for my poor Monk. So, for instance, my new Monk build was having far too easy a time on Normal difficulty, and while I can't change that up to Inferno or Nightmare mode yet, I can bump the Monster Power level up to 10, which I've now done.Īnd it works quite well.
